ACTIVITIES 2008

LUNCHEON AT THE JOM MAKAN RESTAURANT, NESTLED NEXT TO THE NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY - LONDON

The Ladies from the Perwakilan London were invited for lunch at the Jom Makan Restaurant, 5-7 Pall Mall East, London on December 21, 2008. The cafeteria-style restaurant, served authentic Malaysian food. The ladies tried the signature dishes, Nasi Goreng - spicy pan-fried and the Rendang Tok.



RIVER CRUISE BETWEEN GREENWICH AND CENTRAL LONDON




On December 16, 2008 around twenty (20) ladies of the Perwakilan London took a trip on the River Thames between Greenwich and central London. The ladies enjoyed the fascinating and constantly changing scene of floodlift bridges and building which create the unique atmosphere of the River Thames. This River Cruise was organized by the Visit and Social Committee headed by Puan Fatimah Saadon.



ASEAN COFFEE MORNING HOSTED BY THE PERWAKILAN LONDON



The Perwakilan London hosted a small but lively buffet coffee morning for the ASEAN Ladies. It was held on November 25, 2008 at Rumah Malaysia, 1 Templewood Garden, London. Variety of delicious, tasty and spicy authentic Malaysian food prepared by Yg. Bhg. Datin Munah Abdul Razak, the President of Perwakilan London was served.



FEDERATION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION (FIWAL) ANNUAL PRESIDENTS' AND GUESTS REVIEW LUNCHEON


The luncheon was held at The Lansdowne Club, Shelburne Room on November 24, 2008. The Perwakilan London was represented by Puan Rozita Dawan and Puan Fatimah Saadon. The guest members were entertained by the guest speaker, Dr. Andrea Tanner, the archivist of Fortnum and Mason.



COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES LEAGUE (CCL) FOOD AND CRAFT FAIR


Once again Perwakilan London participated in the CCL Food and Craft Fair held at the Kensington town Hall, Hornton Street, London on November 8, 2008. Perwakilan London participated in both food and craft stalls and took part in the Fashion Show which showcased the colourful and unique multi-cultural Malaysian Traditional dress.



POOL GAMES DEMONSTRATION BY ENCIK SALLEH RAMLI


The Pool Games is the general name given to all billiard games played on a table with pockets. Essential equipment is the long, usually wooden stick called cue (cue stick or cue ball), a set of billiard balls and the white cue ball. Encik Salleh Ramli has kindly demonstrated the Pool Games to the ladies of the Perwakilan London which was held at the Malaysian High Commission Office. This activity was organized by the Demonstration and Sports Committee led by Puan Hasmah Hashim.



LUNCHEON AT BENIHANA SWISS COTTAGE FOR FUND RAISING

Benihana Swiss Cottage was the first Benihana Restaurant to open in the United Kingdom in 1986. Specialised in Japanese cuisine and was awarded 'Best Family Restaurant 2006' by Timeout Magazine. The Ladies from the Perwakilan London and Women's Council organized luncheon on October 7, 2008 to raise fund. They were served with the Traditional Hibachi Lunch - A Six Course Lunch.



DEMONSTRATION OF MALAYSIAN TRADITIONAL DRESS - BAJU KURUNG



Demonstration Committee has again initiated a demonstration of Malaysian Traditional Dress, Baju Kurung - held at Puan Zanita Jusoh's resident in Hendon, London. Baju Kurung is the Malaysian Traditional apparel suitable for formal or informal functions. Loose fitting long blouse worn over a matching sarong and to complete the outfit, it is worn with a long scarf (selendang) over the shoulder.



DEMONSTRATION OF NAPKIN FOLDING TECHNIQUE


The Ladies of the Perwakilan London was taught on five (5) different Napkin folding techniques - Pyramid, Bird of Paradise, Bishop's Hat, Rose and Standing Fan. A beautifully set table is enhanced by an artistically folded napkin and you value your guests with this extra effort. This activities was organized by Puan Hasmah Hashim, Head of Demonstration Committee at her resident in Hendon, London.



DEMONSTRATION OF THE MALAYSIAN LOCAL CAKE - APAM BALIK

Demonstration of Malaysian Local Cake - Apam Balik was organized by Puan Hasmah Hashim, Head of Demonstration Committee at The Malaysian High Commission Office. Apam Balik, also known as Malaysian Pancake is very popular among the Malaysian and is served for tea. This tasty cake is made of flour, butter, sugar, peanuts and bicarbonate soda.



AN ANNUAL MERDEKA CARNIVAL - 30TH AUGUST 2008

An Annual Merdeka Carnival organized by the Malaysian Community and the High Commission of Malaysia inconjuction with Malaysia's 51st Independence Day was held on 30th August 2008 at Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre, Brickendonbury, Hertford. The Carnival commenced with the flag raising ceremony and the singsing of Negara Ku by the Ladies from Perwakilan London. The guest of honour was Deputy Lieutenant, Hertford, Lady Joanne Staughton. The main attractions at the Carnival were Malaysian food, cultural dance, art and crafts and exhibitions of products and services.


MERDEKA BOWLING TOURNAMENT - 13TH JULY 2008
Merdeka Bowling Tournament organised by the Sport and Social Club, Malaysian High Commission was held on 13th July 2008 at the Airport Bowling Alley, Bath Road, Harlington, Middlesex. A group of 15 ladies from Perwakilan London participated in this tournament. Y. Bhg. Datin Munah Abdul Razak won the prize for 'Ladies High Score' and Puan Rosmawati won first prize in 'Ladies High Series' Category.



AN OFFICIAL RECEPTION IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE OFFICIAL CELEBRATION OF SPB YDP AGONG'S BIRTHDAY - 7TH JUNE 2008


Inconjuction with the Official Celebration of His Majesty SPB Yang di-Pertuan Agong's Birthday, H. E. Ambassador Datuk Abdul Aziz Mohammed has graciously hosted a tea reception for the Malaysian community in the United Kingdom at the Rumah Malaysia on 7 June 2008. All Malaysian Government Departments and Agencies, Businesses, Trade Organizations and Associations and Embassies were invited. Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique, Federal Territories Minister and family were also present at the reception.



ANNUAL SPRING FAIR OF INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL SERVICE (ISS) BAZAAR - 13TH AND 14TH MAY 2008



Annual Spring Fair of International Social Service (ISS) UK is a celebration of international cultures and cuisines. This event is known as one of the largest and colourful charity fair in London with an objective to raise fund for charitable activities. The Fair was held at The Kensington Town Hall on 13th and 14th May 2008 and has received tremendous participation from London-base Embassies and High Commissions. The High Commission of Malaysia through its Women Society Group, "PERWAKILAN LONDON" participated in the fair, not only to support ISS UK charity works but also to promote Malaysia uniqueness through our authentic Malaysian cuisine, handicraft and souvenirs.


COFFEE MORNING WITH YANG BERBAHAGIA DATIN SERI UTAMA MASNAH RAIS, WIFE OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS - 12TH MAY 2008

Perwakilan London hosted a coffee morning on 12th May 2008 at The Malaysian High Commission Office to welcome Yang Berbahagia Datin Seri Utama Maznah Rais, wife of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The highlight of the coffee morning was an exciting cultural dance, karaoke and choir performed by Ladies of Perwakilan London. Also present awere some of the wives of the European Head of Mission.



LUNCHEON ORGANIZED BY RELIGION COMMITTEE AND GROUP 'D' IN CELEBRATION OF MAULIDUR RASUL, BIRTHDAY AND FAREWELL PARTY - 25TH APRIL 2008


In conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul, Religion Committe and Group 'D' of Perwakilan London organised a luncheon. Ustaz Erfino Johari was invited to deliver a lecture about the history of Prophet Muhamad s.a.w. Following the function, a birthday celebration was held for Y. Bhg. Datin Munah Abdul Razak and Puan Rashidah Ali. In appreciation for the contribution of our two (2) members, a farewell party was also held on the same day for Puan Aziyah Abdul Aziz and Puan Saiful Munirah Md. Ali.



25TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF PERWAKILAN LONDON HELD ON 18TH MARCH 2008

TYT Datuk Abdul Aziz Mohamed, the Patron of Perwakilan London launched the 25th Annual General Meeting of Perwakilan London which was on the 8th March 2008 at the Malaysian High Commission office in London. While retaining most of the members of the previous Main Committee, they also had appointed few new members to be in the new committee. Among them in the Main Committee is Datin Dr. Musrifah Sapardi, the new Vice President.



WOMEN'S COUNCIL LAUNCHEON HOSTED BY THE PRESIDENT OF PERWAKILAN LONDON AT RUMAH MALAYSIA - 11TH MARCH 2008


A charity buffet was hosted by Y. Bhg. Datin Munah Abdul Razak, President of Perwakilan London for the Women's Council Scholarship Fund at her residence, Templewood Garden, Hampstead, London on 11th March 2008. 45 members and guests from the Women's Council attended this enjoyable buffet and raised £1,046 towards the Council Funds. The buffet comprised of traditional Malaysian dishes of Fragrant Basmati Rice, Lamb Kuzi, Chicken Kurma, Fillet of Sole Fish in red sauce, and Nyonya Noodle with King Prawns. As for dessert there were the famous Datin's Carrot Cake, Cheese Cake, Jelly and Nyonya pudding. Raffle tickets were sold on the day with lucrative prizes.



FIVE PERWAKILAN LADIES ATTENDED COFFEE MORNING AT MRS SALWA MAYASSI PENTHOUSE APARTMENT IN KNIGHTSBRIDGE - 13TH FEBRUARY

On the 13 of February, Mrs. Salwa Mayassi welcomed 40 ladies from Federation of International Women's Association (FIWAL)in London to her penthouse apartment in Knightsbridge for a coffee morning, and to meet Dr. Preema Vig, the medical director at 'Beyond Spa' at Harvey Nichols. FIWAL ladies were given information of non-invasive anti-aging techniques, the pros and cons of botox and other ways of holding on to youth.
